ASEAN Cancelled Under Pressure

The ASEAN Summit supposed to be held in Pattaya, was cancelled after protestors stormed the venue. The protestors support former Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra and have stated that the current government is illegitimate and hence cannot sign any agreement for the country. Thai government has declared emergency and evacuated the visiting dignitaries. The Pattaya Summit was supposed to be the meeting place for ASEAN members with leaders of Australia, India, China, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea. Protestors dispersed after the Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, left the venue. UN Secretary General, Ban-Ki-Moon, released a statement, expressing hope that normalcy would be restored soon. He was one of the leaders expected to attend the Summit.
