Military head Frank Bainimarama has been reappointed as Prime Minister by the President, Mr.Ratu Josefa Iloilo. On Thursday, a Fijian court ruled against military government. This led Mr. Bainimarama to resign from the top post. On Friday, President Iloilo appointed himself as head of state and removed the judges. He also declared emergency and reappointed the Prime Minister, ensuring that the military still retained power. United Nations Secretary General has deplored the military rule and has called for restoration of a legitimate government in Fiji. The United States has asked Fiji to return to democracy. The Pacific Islands Forum leaders have asked Fijian government to hold elections as soon as possible.
